Vacant spaces as a solution to challenges of remote life

The breakthrough of remote work changed how we use the city. Work can be conducted from anywhere with an internet connection and offices in the central area have become empty. Where, when and why people interact has changed. This has changed the deepest essence of the city and what the city means to its residents. Cities have traditionally been places where humanity organizes itself into communities. However, this function has decreased with remote work and the possibility of digital meetings. The change can be seen at the individual level as new challenges and needs.

The transition of work to the Internet can be seen in the everyday life of everyone who works, also in areas of life outside of work. Various views on remote work are reported both in the media and in studies. Although the majority chooses to preferably do at least part of their work remotely, it is important to consider the reported problems. By locating the problems, you can try to find solutions for them.

Social life has become increasingly virtual, passive and burdensome. The experience of alienation and loneliness, as well as especially the mental health problems of young people, have increased. At the same time cities are full of unused spaces that could act as places for interaction. By making use of what we already have to create social happiness we could solve spatial problems with zero consumption.
